Location:
Malaysia is situated in the central part of Southeast Asia. West
Malaysia covers the Malaysian Peninsula including offshore islands
and borders in the north with Thailand and in the south with
Singapore. Eastern Malaysia covers the northern part of the island
of Borneo, bordering Brunei and Indonesia. In total Malaysia covers
approximately 330,000 square kilometres of land.
Climate:
The climate in Malaysia is tropical without extremely high
temperatures. Days are sunny and hot, while nights are cooler.
Temperatures may range from 21°C to 32°C (70° F to 90 °F).
Humidity in Malaysia is quite high due to high temperature and a
high rate of evaporation.
Time:
Malaysia is 8 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). At the
moment Malaysia does not operate daylight savings time, which means
that in summertime it is only 7 hours ahead of UK local time.
Largest Cities:
Kuala Lumpur is Malaysia's capital and biggest city with a
population of 1.1 million located on the central west coast of
peninsular Malaysia. Ipoh is Malaysia's second largest city with a
population of 382,000, it is situated on the northern part of
peninsular Malaysia. Johor Baharu is the third largest city with
328,000 inhabitants and is also located on peninsular Malaysia.
Other major cities include Melaka, Penang, Kota Baharu, Georgetown,
Kuching.
