Malaysian
textiles and apparel are recognized around the world for their
quality and reliability. In 2001 total exports of textiles were
valued at US$2.34 billion with the main importers being the US, UK,
Hong Kong, Singapore and Japan. Well known international brands are
established in Malaysia taking advantage of the superior
manufacturing possibilities offered in the country. International
producers with factories in Malaysia include Adidas, Champion,
Calvin Klein, Nike, Ralph Lauren, Timberland, Gucci and many others.
Major local producers include Anakku, Padini, PDI, Seed, Donna
Knits, John Masters and British India. Many Malaysian textile
producers have successfully penetrated overseas markets.
Malaysia is also attracting foreign investment in the textile
industry in order to further improve production efficiency and
global competitiveness of Malaysian textiles. |
