The Malaysia My Second Home programme has managed to
attract 4,000 foreigners since it was introduced in 1996 to date,
reflecting the confidence people have in Malaysia as a safe and
peaceful country.
Previously called the Silver-Haired Programme when it was first
launched in 1987, Malaysia My Second Home scheme allows foreigners
to live in the country with a special social visit pass for five
years and allowed to purchase two properties worth above RM150,000 (USD
65,789) without the approval from the Foreign Investment Committee.
Last year alone 1,332 foreigners registered under the programme. The
largest number was from China (513) followed by Singapore (121)
Great Britain (105), Indonesia (88) and Taiwan (60). The country
offers a large selection of attractive residential properties to
buy. New residential property and infrastructural projects are to be
found in many parts of Malaysia, including Kuala
Lumpur, Putrajaya,
Langkawi,
Sabah
and Sarawak.
The cost of living in Malaysia is one of the lowest in Asia; the
standard of living with modern infrastructure and facilities are
high; the weather, which is pleasant, warm and balmy with moderate
rain throughout the year; political stability; safety and tight
security measures, and English is widely spoken.
